Advisory Committees

Biomedical Research Coordinating Committee (BRCC)


The Biomedical Research Coordinating Committee (BRCC) consists of experienced local scientists and administrators who assist the Program Director and Activity Leaders with various aspects of planning and implementation associated with the Hawaii RCMI Program. Specifically, the duties of the BRCC are to:

  • Monitor overall progress and assist activity leaders and project leaders in the successful implementation of their research

  • Identify additional funding sources and develop opportunities for project-specific research training

  • Develop review criteria and participate in the review process of applications submitted to the Clinical and Translational Sciences Bridging Fund

  • Meet biannually to assess the productivity of the RCMI Program, and to recommend program priorities and governing decisions regarding individual activities

RCMI External Advisory Committee (EAC)


The External Advisory Committee (EAC) consists of respected scientists from institutions outside the state of Hawai'i. Their role is to monitor and periodically evaluate the Hawaii RCMI Program to maintain the highest possible standards of research and administration. Specifically, the duties of the EAC are to:

  • Provide advice and guidance in the planning, development, implementation and future research direction of RCMI activities

  • Identify new scientific opportunities and priorities

  • Establish guidelines for evaluating the progress and productivity of translational research projects

  • Facilitate collaborative research opportunities and identify and develop opportunities for mentoring and research training

  • Provide expert assistance in reviewing grant applications

  • Meet annually to evaluate the productivity of research projects and to assess the effectiveness of the administrative structure

  • Prepare an evaluation report following the annual EAC meeting
